Small Groups Overview
Free market small groups.
The Northlands small group concept is based on a free market philosophy. This means that we encourage groups that have a wide variety of forms and content. These groups gather around felt needs, common interests and similar stirrings of the heart. The group’s homogeneity allows people to engage their passions with other like-minded people. We hope it becomes the best meeting of your week. They are free market because the groups that flourish are celebrated and coached to do even better. They are supported because they add life and help to people. They are likely to be emulated in the future. Groups that do not take off for various reasons are allowed to end with deep appreciation for the courage and creativity it took to offer them. The “market” decides which groups thrive.
How long do they meet?
These groups meet for a maximum of 12 weeks at a time. They are launched in January, June and August with the groups meeting during the summer for an average of only 6 weeks. They are encouraged to meet weekly so that the momentum and relationships that are developed in the small group have the maximum impact.
Coaches
The coaches assigned to each small group, along with the leaders and assistant leaders, work toward maximizing the effectiveness of the group. This is done with honor and gratitude to those leading. We want to offer the best service we can render our King. It also ensures the training a development of leadership in the church.
Creativity
Many people have great ideas about what could be done and often they see needs that could be met in the community. Free market small groups create opportunities for these people to venture out creatively in response to what they see. In a safe environment they can attempt to put actions behind their ideas.
